This work addresses the transformation of the productive scheme in La Comarca Lagunera region, located in northern México, particularly since 1950. It also focuses on the construction process of one of the most important Mexican milk industries in a semi-arid area. By the end of the XIX century, La Laguna based its economy on cotton agricultural production, but later on the region undertook a severe process of transformation which produced new productive mechanisms, decisive technological innovations, different forms of association among producers, a steady institutional presence and a reorientation of entrepreneurial activities. At the end of the above process, in the mid seventies, the so called milk 'rim' in the region was already in position to origin one of the most powerful firms in today's Mexican agro-food sector: the Lala Group.
