VAZQUEZ MORAN, Israel; ADAME MARTINEZ, Salvador; HERNANDEZ REJON, Elda Margarita  e  CALDERON MAYA, Juan Roberto. Assessment of the multidimensional urban sustainability of the Puebla-Tlaxcala Metropolitan Area, Mexico. Invest. Geog [online]. 2023, n.112, e60785.  Epub 22-Abr-2024. ISSN 2448-7279.  https://doi.org/10.14350/rig.60785.

The accelerated urbanization process is an unprecedented phenomenon that has resulted in new urban configurations and various environmental problems, whether due to accelerated land consumption or the demand for natural resources. Due to the challenges faced by cities and their different dimensions of analysis, it is essential to study them from the approach of sustainable development with a multidimensional perspective. With this perspective, the Multidimensional Urban Sustainability of the Puebla-Tlaxcala Metropolitan Area was evaluated through the Emerging and Sustainable Cities Initiative Methodological Guide (ICES), by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The Urban Sustainability Index in Metropolitan Zones (ISUZM) was calculated not with the traffic light technique indicated in the guide but with the Multivariate Analysis technique, in particular with the Principal Component Analysis method, and the Exploratory Analysis of Spatial Dice (AEDE) technique was applied. Clusters with high levels of urban sustainability were identified corresponding to the municipalities of Cuautlancingo (higher urban sustainability), Puebla, San Pedro Cholula, San Andrés Cholula and San Martín Texmelucan, Mexico.

Palavras-chave : urbanization; urban configuration; environmental problems; sustainable development; sustainable city.
