Abstract

OBJECTIVES:

To evaluate the risk of obstetric-perinatal complications of births produced in pregnant teenagers.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

The patients were divided into two groups according to age: group 1 composed of teenager pregnant women and group 2 composed of pregnant women of optimal reproductive age. Patients older than or equal to 35 years were excluded. The relative risk of threatened preterm delivery, operative vaginal delivery, preterm delivery, neonatal involvement, small for gestational age and preeclampsia-eclampsia syndrome.

RESULTS:

It was observed that pregnancy in adolescents has a higher risk of (suspected) preterm labour (RR 1.32 CI 95 % [01.26-1.38), operative vaginal delivery (RR 1.37 CI 95% [1.25-1.50), preterm delivery (RR 1.18 CI 95% [ 1.13-1.23), neonatal involvement (RR 1.34 CI 95% [1.31-1.49), small for gestational age (RR 1.22 CI 95% [1.14-1.29) and preeclampsia-eclampsia syndrome (RR 1.06 CI 95% [0.98-1.15).
