Chilean agriculture today has recovered from the years of declining returns. The same hard work carried out by a farmhand in the period of decline has suddenly achieved greater productivity, and has therefore given rise to economic growth. The present article suggests that Chile experienced a series of fundamental changes in the last 25 years of the 20th century, which intensified its capitalist development. Moreover, we see that theprocess of agrarian reform (1964-1973) and the "partial" capitalist counter-reform (1974-1980) permitted the culmination of the long-postponed transition to modern capitalism, promoting the rise of agribusiness and an export agriculture integrated into the new world economy.
