MALDONADO GARCIA, Edwin Leopoldo et al. Colon primary lymphoma. Case report and literature review. Cir. gen [online]. 2018, vol.40, n.3, pp.184-188. ISSN 1405-0099.

Primary lymphomas of the colon (LPC) are uncommon neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract; the incidence is 0.2 to 0.5% of all primary colon neoplasms. They occur mainly in adulthood. The most frequent variety is non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Multiple lymphomatous polyposis is an uncommon type of presentation of B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The most frequent site of onset in the digestive tract is the stomach, followed by the small intestine and, thirdly, the colon. The most frequent sites of presentation in the colon are the cecum and the rectum. The treatment of choice in primary colon lymphomas is surgical, with adjuvant chemotherapy and, in some cases, radiotherapy. We report the case of a 62-year-old male patient referred to our outpatient clinic because of a three-month history characterized by asthenia, adynamia, hyporexia and low digestive tract bleeding. We diagnosed primary B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma of the colon, with diffuse lymphomatous polyposis of the colon. The patient was successfully treated by surgery and subsequent adjuvant chemotherapy.
