CASTANO EGUIA, Mauricio David et al. Vagina leiomyosarcoma with invasion of the rectum as a cause of abdominal sepsis. A case report. Cir. gen [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.1, pp.42-46.  Epub 02-Out-2020. ISSN 1405-0099.

Cancer of the vagina is the least common gynecological tumor, representing only 2%. The most common of these tumors is the squamous type (75-90%), and the least common, the sarcoma (< 3%), being the leiomyosarcoma the most common. We present a case report of a 40-year-old female that came to the emergency department with abdominal tenderness, constipation, unquantified weight loss, fecaloid transvaginal discharge and hyperthermia. An IV CT scan was performed, reporting peri-rectal fat changes and free fluid. A laparotomy was done, with evidence of free inflammatory fluid, and a mass that involved rectum and cervix. A vagino-hysterectomy was done, with a transoperative biopsy that reported vaginal sarcoma, which lead to the decision of making an abdomino-perineal resection. Due to the low incidence and lack of information regarding this rare tumor (less than 150 cases have been reported in the last 50 years), we decided to add a new case to the literature.
