LOPEZ NORIEGA, Saúl. Democracia y medios de comunicación. Isonomía [online]. 2007, n.26, pp.49-70. ISSN 1405-0218.

The present essay approaches the problem of the media concentration in contemporary democracies. It is a study that arises from a central concern: how to control the private power of mass media without diminishing the set of freedoms of the system of expression and information. In this regard, within the liberal tradition, the text analyzes the tension between autonomy and control, the connection between State and freedom, as well as the characteristics of the rights that revolve around the media concentration: freedom of expression, right to information and freedom of property. Ultimately, with one eye looking at the theoretical scope and the other looking in the direction of certain resolutions of constitutional courts, the essay seeks to outline some minimum constitutional criteria that contribute to the construction of a plural mass media scenario.
