LOPEZ-SANDOVAL, José Antonio et al. Floristic study of the central part of the Nenetzingo Gorge, Ixtapan de la Sal, State of Mexico. Polibotánica [online]. 2010, n.30, pp.09-33. ISSN 1405-2768.

A complete inventory of all plant species that occur in Mexican territory does not exist. There are still groups that require study and areas that remain unexplored, such as the barranca Nenetzingo, Ixtapan de la Sal, in the State of Mexico. This paper provides data on the flora of the barranca, including such features as biological form, reproductive phenology, and abundance. After spending 21 months collecting, pressing and drying, and identifying all species from the study area, a list of species was prepared. The flora was found to have 362 species distributed in 89 families and 248 genera. Seventeen species are documented for the state for the first time. The leading families are Asteraceae, Poaceae, and Fabaceae with 12.9, 10.6, and 5.2%, respectively, of the total number of genera and 14.1, 9.4, and 6.4%, respectively, of the species. Grasses and shrubs represent 82.6 % of all species identified. Flowering and fruiting occur during summer (67.6%) and fall (69.4%). Many of the plants are abundant (47.8%), followed by those that are frequent (29.3%) and scarce (22.9%). Finally, it is noted that the study area has a significant amount of species diversity, but it is a disturbed place requiring conservation action.
