It presents the vegetation description and floristic richness of the municipality of Temascaltepec in the State of Mexico. For this, 35 visits of field work were made around the municipality during different seasons of a year. The composition of the tree canopy, shrubs and herbs was described. Also information was obtained from herbariums and literature. The vegetation types that were recognized, described and mapped in Temascaltepec are forests of Abies, Abies-Pinus, Pinus, Pinus-Quercus and Quercus, mountain cloud forest, tropical deciduous forest and grasslands. A floristic composition of 106 families, 323 genera and 617 species were recorded. The best represented families are Poaceae with 127 species, Asteraceae with 61 and Orchidaceae has 47. The species Pinus herrerae, Pinus luzmariae and Ceiba parvifolia are reported as new records for the municipality, the latter two are also for the State of Mexico. Quercus hintonii and Encyclia adenocaula considered endemic species for the State of Mexico were also collected.
