At present, many participants in Argentine society believe that, compared with the existing educational system, teaching in years past was characterized by greater classroom discipline. Studies on the history of education have transmitted the idea that the institutions in charge of educating the nation's future teachers were settings dominated by order. This article, based on the records of a school of education and a national school at two locations in the province of Buenos Aires, attempts to address the daily practices in the institutions that educated Argentina's teachers in the 1930s.
