SOLIS, Patricio; RODRIGUEZ ROCHA, Eduardo  e  BRUNET, Nicolás. Social Origins, Institutions, and Educational Decisions in the Transition to High School Education: The Case of the Federal District. RMIE [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.59, pp.1103-1136. ISSN 1405-6666.

In this article, we analyze the transition from junior high school to high school in Mexico's Federal District. Since a large number of young people drop out of school during this period, it is important to understand the factors of influence in the phenomenon. We therefore propose an analytical system that decomposes the transition process into four successive pilases: the decision to take or not to take the general admissions examination for public high schools, the selection of options that students request on the examination, the examination results, and the final choice to continue on to high school. We sustain that the results in each phase are influenced by the family's social origins, institutional background, educational trajectory, and expectations for schooling.
