GUBBINS FOXLEY, Verónica. Educational Strategies of Upper Class Families: An Exploratory Study. RMIE [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.63, pp.1069-1089. ISSN 1405-6666.
This study explores the educational strategies of upper class families; specifically, the underlying cultural logic that organizes and provides meaning in the setting of their children's academic socialization. An analysis of the interviews carried out established five structuring semantic areas: the freedom of choice for conserving prestige and social position; the privatization of educational decisions for children; children's cognitive/cultural development as an organizing principle of educational decisions; happiness as the guide for parental action; and the mother, as the primary agent for conserving the prestige and social power of the upper class. These areas organize parents' educational strategies based on the logic of consumption of educational services and pragmatic/instrumental identification with the school.
