BUENDIA, Angélica et al. We Wanted to Evaluate and We Ended up Counting: Alternatives for Evaluating Academic Work. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.74, pp.977-986. ISSN 1405-6666.

The present document resulted from interest in promoting collective discussion to improve systems for evaluating academic work in Mexico’s institutions of higher education. Our intent is to have the mentioned ideas circulated and debated among the greatest possible number of academics. During the second semester of 2016, the authors of the article (educational researchers from various disciplines and specialties) met periodically to analyze and discuss the problems of productivity stimulus programs in universities. The discussion included: if the programs serve to stimulate the expressed ends; if the programs are accepted by academics as part of the regulation of their work; if it is possible to think about the alternatives that may replace or at least improve them; which aspects should be considered to broaden programs’ horizons; and if it is desirable to maintain the links between performance evaluations and economic stimuli.

Palavras-chave : evaluation systems; higher education; academic personnel; Mexico.
