OJEDA, Norma; GAVILANES, María del Carmen  e  GONZALEZ, Eduardo. Abortion of Mexican Women in the Transborder Context Mexico-United States. Pap. poblac [online]. 2003, vol.9, n.38, pp.213-251. ISSN 2448-7147.

This is a socio-demographic and comparative study of abortion among women who reside in both sides of the Mexico-United States Border. The case of Tijuana and San Diego is considered using two complementary data sources. These are: apos-partum survey conducted in the IMSS of Tijuana in 1993 -that provide information for 2 709 women- and the clinic records of Womancar -Planned Parenthood with information from 1 109 women. This last source includes information about Mexican women who crossed the border to practice a legal and safe abortion in San Diego during the spring and summer of 1993. The findings indicate that abortion is more frequent at the latest stages of the women's reproductive period. However, women also used abortion to postpone the beginning of their reproductive trajectories. There are several abortion patterns among female "borlanders" determined by variations in age at abortion, number of children born at the time of abortion, age at first pregnancy, opinions about abortion, motives to abort, and plans to overcome the emotional impact of the post-abortion stage.
