Catalytic transformation of Palo Santo essential oil over Zeolite Faujasita HY. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.2, e1731.  Epub 13-Nov-2020. Palo Santo (Bursera Graveolens) essential oil is a complex mixture of organic compounds consisting of monoterpenes, mainly limonene. The aim of this research was to study the catalytic transformation of Palo Santo essential oil using as a catalyst a type Faujasite acid zeolite, denominated as HY. The reaction was carried out in a system per charge, in liquid phase, at boiling temperature of the mixture (165 °C) and atmospheric pressure. The reaction products were analyzed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detector. The zeolite was transformed to the protonic form and characterized by FRX, DRX, determination of specific area and total acidity. The influence of the catalyst mass/oil mass ratio (mc/Ma) and the reaction time on the distribution of reaction products was determined. An increase in the conversion of the main oil components was observed by increasing the reaction time and the mc/Ma ratio. Lower values of the mc/Ma ratio favor isomerization for lower conversions.
