SAFA BARRAZA, Patricia  e  RAMIREZ SAIZ, Juan Manuel. Deterioro urbano y calidad de vida en las grandes urbes: la participación de las mujeres en las organizaciones vecinales. La ventana [online]. 2011, vol.4, n.34, pp.110-145. ISSN 1405-9436.

Neighborhood associations are formed primarily to deal with everyday issues that concern their members as residents of a certain part of the city, and to improve the material conditions of urban life. This paper seeks to analyze the participation of neighborhood residents in these associations, the way they organize themselves, set objectives and goals, reach agreements and define strategies and the actions they will take. The paper is structured around the six areas of the physical-spatial structure of the city: 1) former outlying towns that have been absorbed by urban sprawl, 2) the downtown area, 3) working-class neighborhoods, 4) subdivisions or residential neighborhoods, 5) gated or closed subdivisions, and 6) apartment complexes. Special attention will be paid to the role women play in these organizations.

Palavras-chave : neighborhood association; urban development; urban decline; quality of urban life and gender.
