Based on 22 in-depth interviews with gays and lesbians with children, this paper describes and analyses the experiences of gays as fathers and lesbians as mothers. The section, gender repertoires, sexuality and parenthood, analyses how ideologies of maleness and femaleness function within a scheme of compulsory heterosexuality.
