PEREZ CASTRO, Judith  e  PINA OSORIO, Juan Manuel. Social representations of indigenous peoples in students from upper secondary education. Sinéctica [online]. 2024, n.62, e1565.  Epub 03-Jun-2024. ISSN 2007-7033.  https://doi.org/10.31391/s2007-7033(2024)0062-08.

In this paper, we discuss the results of a research whose objective was to analyze the social representations of students from upper secondary education about indigenous peoples. The research was based on the associative method, for that purpose, we designed a questionnaire which was administered to students from two high schools, one located in the city of Oaxaca and the other one in Texcoco, Estado de Mexico. Based on the 125 words gathered from the two institutions, we identified 5 social representations: qualities, complaint, positive image, negative image, and rights and values. The representations of qualities, positive image, and negative image reached the highest semantic weight in the students from Texcoco; in contrast, complaint and values and rights were more important for the ones from Oaxaca. We conclude that these differences are the result of the dynamics that surrounds students; for example, inside the institutions, the school environment and availability of supports, while, at the context level, the economic and social conditions that prevail in each city.
