This article reflects upon the different modes and degrees of believing. It focuses, first, on the relationship between believing and beliefs. Then, it explores the relationship between believing that and believing in, as well as the various intensities and degrees of believing modes, both transitive and intransitive. Drawing on poetic and philosophical texts, as well as on semiotic postulates, the author displays several believing-related figures, which are part of Western culture and the Christian world.
