ALCALAN-LOPEZ, Luis Ángel; LASTIRI-HERNANDEZ, Marcos Alfonso  e  ALVAREZ-BERNAL, Dioselina. Effect of liquid biofertilizers, obtained from halophytes, on the germination and emergence of four species of vegetables (Daucus carota L., Lactuca sativa L., Raphanus sativus L. y Cucumis sativus L.). Biotecnia [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.3, pp.197-207.  Epub 27-Maio-2024. ISSN 1665-1456.  https://doi.org/10.18633/biotecnia.v25i3.2127.

Phytodesalination using halophyte species allows the recovery of saline soils, since halophytes are capable of absorbing salts from the soil and retaining them in their biomass. Unfortunately, at the end of its use, as waste, there remains a lot of biomass that cannot simply be discarded, which is why the production of organic fertilizers is presented as an alternative solution. The objective of the study was to evaluate the germination and emergence capacity of four vegetable species under in vitro conditions, when exposed to different liquid biofertilizers (BFL) produced from halophytes. The study consisted of 76 treatments, obtained from the combination of six BFL, four vegetables (seeds), three BFL concentrations (5, 10 and 20 %), and a control treatment for each vegetable. In all the species evaluated there were significant reductions (p ≤ 0.05) in the relative growth of the radicle (CRR), germination rate (IG) and length of the seedlings (LT), as the BFL concentration increased; therefore, BFL concentrations greater than 10 % considerably decrease the germination and emergence of the species evaluated (IG < 80%). However, low doses of BFL (between 5 and 10%) do not represent a risk (IG > 80%).
