In this paper I underline the similarities between the religious movements breaking out from the catholic church among indigenous people in Chiapas and Guatemala. In spite of their belonging to two different National States, they share a common cultural tradition, now split by a border. An important shared meaning of these religious movements, is the reconstruction of communalism in a time of deep social change.
