ORTIZ LOVILLO, María Del Pilar. Charles Perrault’s “Le Petit Chaperon Rouge”. Swinging between the folk tale’s philological analysis and its oral sources applied as a solution for its translation’s difficulties. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.21, 00027. Epub 14-Mar-2022. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl102120201203.
This article focuses on making an account of how oral tradition and written culture are combined in the story “Le Petit Chaperon Rouge” that Perrault published in the 17th century. Later, it will be shown how knowing the sources of the story directly influences the quality of their translations. The research was carried out with a group of students within the Seminar of Literary and Scientific Translation from French to Spanish at the Institute of Research in Education, at the University of Veracruz. Finally, we will approach the main difficulties encountered by the students in translating “Le Petit Chaperon Rouge” and the choices they made based upon the philological knowledge of the text.
