PADILLA, Beatriz; OLMOS ALCARAZ, Antonia  e  AZEVEDO, Joana. Ethnography of Conviviality and Superdiversity: methodological reflections. Andamios [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.36, pp.15-41. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v15i36.600.

International migrations have become one of the main contributors to increasing cultural diversity. However, migration studies have mainly focused on integration, showing limitations from the standpoint of intercultural diversity. So, new paradigms have arisen focusing on relation patterns among groups, interactions and influences among residents of different origins, including immigrants and autochthonous populations. In this article, we jointly use two arising theoretical frameworks, superdiversity (Vertovec, 2007) and conviviality (Gilroy, 2004), to approach diversity in two Southern European cities, Lisbon and Granada, through carrying ethnographies of the quotidian in public space, reflecting on their strengths and weaknesses, in order to understand level of sensitivity to operationalization in the field.

Palavras-chave : Superdiversity; conviviality; ethnography; Portugal; Spain.
