MARTINEZ-CRUZ, Nieves del Socorro et al. Anthocyanins and anti free-radical activity of Rubus adenotrichus Schltdl (blackberry). Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2011, vol.42, n.4, pp.66-71. ISSN 1870-0195.

Phenols, flavonoids and anthocyanins content was determined in the Rubus adenotrichus'fruit methanol extract, as well as the ability to inhibit free radicals by colorimetric methods. Anthocyanins were quantified and identified by HPLC. The colorimetric test results were: phenol 29.23±1.4 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE), flavonoids 5.26± 0.25 mg catechin equivalents (CE) and 12.3 mg anthocyanins per each gram of dried fruit. It was identified the cyanidin-3-glucoside anthocyanin with tR 60.6 min, by this method was obtained 11.5 mg of anthocyanins as the equivalent of cyanidin-3-glucoside per g of dry fruit. The CE50 of DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) was 148 µg/mL, the standard was vitamin C with an EC50 of 18.7 µg/mL. The high content of anthocyanins in this specie allows us to recommend its use as an antioxidant.
