Resumo

MORENO-ORTIZ, Victor Cesar et al. Rx synthetic medicines and their environmental impact. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2013, vol.44, n.4, pp.17-29. ISSN 1870-0195.

The occurrence of active pharmaceutical substances in the environment is of growing concern. Many drugs are released into the environment, which makes them pollutants, through industrial waste and sub-products, animal and human excretions, household garbage, etc. There have been various harmful effects of various therapeutic groups such as cytotoxic agents, antibiotics, hormone drugs, NSAIDs (diclofenac) and antidepressants on reproduction, kidney failure, death, antibiotic resistance and endocrine disorders in different animal species. Although there is insufficient evidence, these adverse effects can certainly be extrapolated to human health. The aim of the present review is to show the negative effects of prescription drugs and their metabolites over the environment, flora, fauna and humans.

Palavras-chave : Ecopharmacovigilance; drugs; metabolites; environment.
