The concept and reality of civil society have varied over time and history. If for a time, civil society was confused with civilization and the state now confronts the state entity. It is a form of social relationship involving civil and political liberty, voluntary association and the search for consensus. It has ended up being one of the clearest props in the processes of liberalization and democratization.
