GOMEZ VILCHIS, Ricardo Román. Perception of the Purchase of the Vote and Distrust Of The Mexican Voter. Polis [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.1, pp.107-127.  Epub 03-Nov-2021. ISSN 2594-0686.  https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/izt/dcsh/polis/2021v17n1/gomez.

Before an election, what prompts the voter’s mind to detect vote buying? With a survey by Latinobarometro 2017, a year before the presidential election in Mexico, and the use of logistic regressions, this article analyzes the determinants that allow the Mexican voter to identify situations that, from their perspective, are linked to the illegal acquisition of the suffrage. The results suggest that the voter’s ability to detect this type of act, prior to a political competition, is associated with two factors: (1) distrust in electoral institutions and (2) voters’ rejection of corruption and its perception on the government’s commitment to combat it.

Palavras-chave : Corruption; vote buying; distrust; elections; voters.
