Resumo

The Ocoaxo complex of pines is integrated by 3 species (O. assimilis, O. cardonai, O. varians) that feed on the sap of the needles of Pinus spp. causing chlorosis and its eventual fall. The population growth of these insects has caused the defoliation of large areas of forest in several localities of the country, therefore they have been considered pests, although basic aspects of their biology and distribution are still unknown. In the present work, we analyzed the records of specimens deposited in entomological collections and online databases that allowed us to define the geographic space where these species are present in interaction with the ecosystems of Mexico, in addition to providing the food spectrum of their adult stage, identifying the environmental factors that are potentially associated with their presence, as well as knowing the period in which they are found throughout the year. The analysis of these data also allowed us to generate spatial hypotheses of their distribution, estimate the limits of the areas where they have been reported and recognize potential areas for monitoring.
