CORDERO MARINES, Liliana. The Governance of the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations: A Strategy for getting out from under the Indian Act. Norteamérica [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.2, pp.117-137. Epub 28-Abr-2023. ISSN 2448-7228. https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2022.2.526.
The British Columbia Assembly of First Nations is a political organization representative of the First Nations that currently inhabit British Columbia. Through a qualitative methodology, based on content analysis, the assembly’s website was examined in order to understand how governance is conceived as a central strategy. It is concluded that it consists of a collective and horizontal exercise of establishing rules and agreements consistent with indigenous legal and cultural traditions and is used as the privileged mechanism for achieving self-determination, building or rebuilding self-governments and transcending the Indian Act.
