In this review I check Christiane Berth’s book from four aspects: its theoretical- methodological scaffolding, a critique of the teleological vision of coffee production, the support of German farmers to the government of Jorge Ubico (1931-1944) and the vicissitudes that the German colony faced in Guatemala after the outbreak of the Second World War. The commented work enriches the historiography about Central American region and opens gaps to continue studying it. The purpose of this review has been precisely to show them.
