FILLOL MAZO, Adriana. Food and the Use of Poison in Situations of Armed Conflict: Analysis in the Light of the Means and Methods of Warfare Prohibited Under International Humanitarian Law. Anu. Mex. Der. Inter [online]. 2023, vol.23, pp.105-140. Epub 27-Nov-2023. ISSN 1870-4654. https://doi.org/10.22201/iij.24487872e.2023.23.17894.
This article aims to analyze legal-international obligations, as well as their nature, for the parties to the armed conflict, international and non-international, in relation to the prohibition of food poisoning as a method and means of warfare. Armed conflicts lead to the most severe forms of famine of the civilian population, however, throughout the law of armed conflicts, an explicit prohibition of poisoning food as a method of warfare has not been found, which is why we have proposed to choose this research topic. The work is complemented with the analysis of the prohibition of food poisoning as a means of war and the possible attribution of international criminal responsibility for violation of the obligation that proscribes this practice that, although not being explicit or specific, is deduced from the conventional norms, customary and the principles of international humanitarian law.
