LANZA-VALDIVIA, Carlos J. e ROJAS-MEZA, Jairo E.. Reproduction strategies of peasant domestic units in Jucuapa Centro, Nicaragua. agric. soc. desarro [online]. 2010, vol.7, n.2, pp.169-187. ISSN 1870-5472.
In this article, we analyze reproduction strategies of Peasant Domestic Units (PDU) in the Jucuapa Centro Community, located in the Department of Matagalpa, Nicaragua, to evaluate their development viability. Peasant strategies refer to mechanisms that family units practice to endure nutritional minimums and satisfy their basic needs, and secure their survival and social reproduction. Peasant agriculture in this community is immersed in a process of productive recomposition, with the introduction or extension of products like coffee, fruits, large and small livestock, which have allowed greater economic income. However, reorientation of agricultural activities is insufficient to guarantee the socioeconomic reproduction of the PDU, where members must resort to performing activities outside the farm, which are not agricultural activities but rather complementary, whose logic is directed at obtaining the maximum economic income and ecological potential.
