AGUILAR-ORTEGA, Teodoro. National and regional industrial development: an empirical reference. agric. soc. desarro [online]. 2011, vol.8, n.3, pp.345-366. ISSN 1870-5472.
Regional development in México is unequal because it is a country that has historically concentrated population and production in some specific points of the territory. These inequalities have increased since the beginning of economic openness and implementation of the Neoliberal model during the six-year office of Miguel de la Madrid. Globalization and the signature and start of the North America Free Trade Agreement have had unequal effects on the territory, causing polarization in regional asymmetries. This divergence insofar as the degree of current regional development requires the intervention and direction of the Mexican State in strategic areas that promote regional convergence.
