SANCHEZ CASANOVA, Wendy Marilú. El estudio de la cultura turística: El caso de Tulum, Quintana Roo, 2005-2006. Península [online]. 2009, vol.4, n.2, pp.81-102. ISSN 1870-5766.

From a new theoretical and referential framework, and by means of qualitative research, this paper presents and explains some aspects of tourism culture in Tulum, Quintana Roo. If this culture is part of a society oriented toward knowledge and its worth, and if it seeks the satisfaction of travelers and the best qualitative and quantitative benefits for the host community, then in Tulum the proposal has been woefully inadequate. In practice, those who work in tourism in this area are poorly trained and not very knowledgeable of the political and economic forces that guide their employment. This situation is largely due to a lack of a sense of identity and permanence among the inhabitants, which is aggravated by a worsening economic situation that has resulted from the capitalist administration of the industry.

Palavras-chave : Tourism culture; training in tourism; tourism policy; local community; Tulum.
