RODRIGUEZ SUAREZ, Pedro Manuel. The Baltic Republics against Russia and Europe. Tla-melaua [online]. 2015, vol.8, n.37, pp.112-130. ISSN 2594-0716.

Since 1991 when the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) became independent of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, they established four fundamental objectives as part of its foreign policy. Ensure its independence starting with an arduous process of transformation to a post-socialist country. Achieve membership to the European Union (EU) and in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Reject any attempt by Russia in order to be incorporated back into its zone of influence of post-Cold war (to the next closest). In this article, the interest of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania against their integration into the EU and NATO are analyzed, evaluating Baltic's public opinion against the "return of their societies in Europe" and a reflection on the problems faced by the ethnic minorities, mainly Polish, in situ Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian in situ.

Palavras-chave : Baltic countries; regionalization; human rights; ethnic dilemmas; Western Europe and Eastern Europe.
