This article carries out a scientific reflection on the garment industry mainly located in emerging countries. Their main advantage is the availability of unskilled labor with low level wages. In recent decades, Asian countries have led the international trade of the textile industry.

This has affected Latin America. Sixteen countries of Latin America are considered to be the most involved in the foreign trade of this production sector. The first objective is to analyze the development of the apparel industry in Asian countries, and its impact on the countries of Latin America.

The second objective is to know the recurrent business methods that have given a competitive advantage to the leading countries in the sector. The third is to generate proposals to counterbalance the competition from Asian countries to those of Latin America.
