SERRA ROJAS, Sergio Vadillo  e  TREJO REYNA, Melly Danielle Cassandra. Burning mouth syndrome. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.2, pp.149-151. ISSN 1870-7203.

Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a pathological entity of unknown cause associated to biological and psychological factors. BMS is characterized by chronic pain and / or burning in the oral mucosa, mainly the tongue, significantly decreasing the quality of life of the affected. This syndrome occurs mainly in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women and is associated with anxiety and depression. Although there are several treatments for the symptomatic control of this syndrome, there is still no consensus about the most effective treatment. In this particular case, the patient was managed on the basis of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants, topical capsaicin and benzodiazepines, in this case clonazepam, with a satisfactory outcome.

Palavras-chave : Burning mouth síndrome; glossodynia; stomatodynia; oral dysesthesia.
