Lesions that project from the wall of the gallbladder into the gallbladder wall are called vesicular polyps. The prevalence of polypoid lesions of the gallbladder is reported in 2-12% worldwide.
Material and methods:
A descriptive, transversal, retrospective study with a sample of 902 patients who underwent cholecystectomy at the Ángeles Mocel hospital from January 2008 to January 2013. The prevalence of vesicular polyposis was obtained. A subanalysis was performed on the prevalence of cancer in patients with cholecystectomy, and in turn, we calculated the relative risk of cancer in patients with vesicular polyposis in our population.
Results:
A sample of 902 patients with cholecystectomy included in the study was analyzed, with a mean age of 48.53; pathology results were obtained to recognize the prevalence of vesicular polyposis in the period, which was 1.3%. The prevalence of cancer in postoperative patients of cholecystectomy was 0.4%.
Conclusions:
The prevalence of vesicular polyposis in our hospital is Swithin the ranges estimated worldwide. However, the prevalence of cancer secondary to polyposis in this study is much lower than expected.
