TARACENA PACHECO, Santiago et al. Shock index: clinical fields of application. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.4, pp.338-341. Epub 26-Maio-2023. ISSN 1870-7203. https://doi.org/10.35366/107118.
The shock index (SI) was initially proposed in 1967 with the intention of assessing patients at risk of developing hypovolemic shock; the use of the shock index has been proposed in different clinical scenarios involving various pathologies. The main problem with the SI at present is the variability in relation to the cut-off points that should be considered for precise clinical scenarios. A range considered normal in the scenario of a patient at risk of hypovolemic shock has been established from 0.5 to 0.7, but in different clinical settings, the value of the SI is more useful with different cut-off points, being an interesting tool in all areas of medicine.
