ZURIA, Iriana; CASTELLANOS, Ignacio; VALENCIA-HERVERTH, Raúl  e  CARBO-RAMIREZ, Pilar. First records of the monk parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus) for the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.1, pp.33-37. ISSN 1870-7459.

The Monk parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus) is an exotic and invasive bird for Mexico. In this note we present the first records of this species for the state of Hidalgo. We observed adults and active nests since 2011 in two cities in Hidalgo: Huejutla and Pachuca. The nests in Huejutla were constructed on a metal structure and an antenna, while in Pachuca a nest was located on a yucca tree in a golf course. The presence of active nests indicates that the species is becoming established in the state. The distribution of the monk parakeet has increased significantly in Mexico, currently there are records for 23 states in the country.
