VAZQUEZ VAZQUEZ, Cirilo et al. Use of plastic covers for solarization cattle manure. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.4, pp.609-617. ISSN 2007-0934.

The present work was carried out with the purpose of evaluating plastic covers, to use them in solarization of bovine manure, as an active method that can achieve pathogens deactivation, to obtain an organic and innocuous residual. In months of June and July of 2004, were compared stack treatments of manure covered with transparent plastic without albedo of 100 µm thickness, one with single cover, another with double cover and without cover a control one. Samples of solarized manure and without solarization were taken, to carry out sowing in culture media of potato-dextrose-agar, to detect coprophilous fungi as well as to detect Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. Results showed bigger homogeneity of temperature in stack with double cover in vertical plane, with 62 ºC at 30 cm depth and 60 ºC at 90 cm, the single cover reached a temperature of 61.5 ºC in the superior stratum and 58 ºC at 90 cm depth, control showed bigger heterogeneity with values from 58 ºC at 30 cm and 47 °C at 90 cm with a variation of 11 ºC. The results of analyses previous to solarization showed presence of bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp., in further samplings only in the control these pathogens were found.
