Armida is product of breeding process that originated from a triple crossing made by National Research Forestry, Agriculture and livestock Institute of the national program for malt barley, at "Bajío" Experimental Field, is a variety that is tolerant to most of common diseases to malting barley under irrigation conditions, as well as, moderated tolerance to leaf rust (Puccinia hordei Otth.), high yield potential, industrial quality and shorter growing season than control variety Esperanza. The individual selections in segregating generations of Armida variety were held alternately in the Valle de Mexico and Bajío experimental fields. This variety was evaluated for eleven growing seasons with average experimental grain yields above 12% to commercial Esperanza variety.
