CHAN CUPUL, Wilberth et al. Adult attraction and oviposition preference of whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) in genotypes of Capsicum annuum. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.1, pp.77-86. ISSN 2007-0934.

The whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) is a plague that limits the development of a large number of horticultural crops by sucking sap and begomovirus transmission. With the aim of finding some sources of resistance was evaluated attracting adults and oviposition preferably B. tabaci regional genotypes C. annuum collected in southeastern Mexico. Also showed a significant (p= 0.006) lower adult attraction Maax genotype ik (0.6 and 0 adults cm2 at 24 and 48 h exposure) compared to the commercial genotype Jalapeño (8.2 and 4.2 cm2 to 24 adults and 48 h exposure). Similarly, it is recorded that B. tabaci had significantly (p = 0.048) lower in oviposition preference Maax genotype foliage ik ( 0.5 to 0.7 cm2 eggs at 24 and 48 h exposure ) compared to genotype Jalapeno preference (12 cm2 and 16.5 eggs at 24 and 48 h of exposure). The regional chili Maax ik genotype can be used as a source of resistance to B. tabaci in breeding programs of C. annuum.
