ROSALES-SERNA, Rigoberto et al. Yield, preference, and canned quality of pinto bean varieties, produced in Durango, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.2, pp.309-315. ISSN 2007-0934.

The objective of this paper was to validate the days to maturity, yield, 100 seed weight and preference of five varieties of pinto beans. We evaluated the maturity, yield and weight of 100 seeds in 9-13 sites Pinto varieties Centaur, Pinto Bravo, Pinto Centennial, Pinto Libertad, Pinto Saltillo and Pinto Coloso (control). In a preference study, we determined the quality of the varieties for trade and industry consumption based on attributes of raw grain, cooked and canned. The new varieties were earlier to mature (89-92 days), Pinto Saltillo (92-96 days) had the largest grain (34-38 g 100 seeds-1 vs 30-31 g 100 seeds Most commercial strains showed high preference (15.1-18.3%) and consumption (4.1-4.7, on the scale of 1 to 5). After canning, Pinto Saltillo recorded the highest yield in weight (263%) and percentage of popped grains (60%). Validated varieties precociousness, larger seeds, high yield and higher preference for producers, traders and consumers.
