The notion of «awakening» plays a central role not only in the late works of Walter Benjamin, but also, and fundamentally in his early writings, in which it becomes essential through its connection to the function of writing. In this article I will show the way in which the figure of «awakening» constitutes the point of convergence between aesthetics and politics, as it offers a new access to the writings of the young Benjamin. Finally, in connection with his theory of language, this figure will allow us to account for the programmatic character of the link between «literary praxis» and «political praxis» in Benjamin’s thought.
