CEBEY MONTES DE OCA, Georgina. Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM, The Museum of Modern Art), Mexico City: Half a Century of Modernity. Intervención (Méx. DF) [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.11, pp.25-31. ISSN 2007-249X.
In 2014 the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM, The Museum of Modern Art,) of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA, Institute of Fine Arts), Mexico, celebrated its 50th anniversary. Throughout its existence, the institution has been dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of national modern art; tasks reflected perfectly by the architecture of its headquarter. The museum materialized in line with its spatial form, representing an ideal of modernity that ensured self-recognition or self-definition of the country and its integration in a new landscape of plastic art expression. In other words, the purpose of this RESEARCH is to outline the idea that the architecture of MAM-INBA is not autonomous, but it rather responds to a series of museological assumptions. These assumptions of political and cultural nature, articulated as a unity, gave origin to the museum.
