In the state of Michoacán, forest plantations are carried out using mostly species of Pinus, Eucalyptus and Cupressus. However, seedlings survival rate at the following year is on average 37.8 %, and late planting dates are among the causal factors of mortality. The aim of this work was to evaluate the survival rate and development of Pinus pseudostrobus Lindl. seedlings, established in five different planting dates in land lots of the Indigenous Community of Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro, Michoacán. The plantation was established in July and August 2013, with a spacing of 2.0 x 2.0 m and five planting dates (July 1st, 15th and 30th, and August 15th and 30th), following a randomized complete-block experimental design, with five repetitions of 25 plants per repetition, 100 plants per treatment. Total height, diameter at the base of the plant and survival rate were evaluated two years after the plantation. Statistical differences in height were found (p<0.0001). The planting dates 1 and 2 (157 and 157.8 cm) presented a higher growth in comparison to late planting dates, as well as diameter at the base of the plant. No significant differences were found considering survival rates. Water availability on planting dates 1 and 2 was higher and influenced a higher growth in diameter and height in Pinus pseudostrobus.
