Objective. To analyze the psychosocial risk facing COVID-19 in Mexico using: active coping (AC), passive coping (PC), risk perception (RP), emotional impact (EI), media credibility perception (MCP) and compliance with sanitary recommendations (CSR). Material and methods. The Psychosocial risk facing COVID-19 questionnaire was created ad hoc and applied to 1,211 participants. The results were reported using descriptive data, hypothesis tests, and ANOVA, in order to compare sociodemographic data and the assessed factors. In addition, a hypothetical model using the MCP, EI and RP variables was created. Results. AC was found to be related to age, marital status, education level and socioeconomic status (p <.001). CSR was found to be related to sex, age, education level and socioeconomic status (p <.001). The proposed hypothetical model achieved statistical significance (p<0.05). Conclusion. MCP impacts RP and EI, which in turn causes EI. This may affect people's mental health.
