GARCIA-MENDEZ, Mirna; MENDEZ-SANCHEZ, María del Pilar; PENALOZA-GOMEZ, Rafael e RIVERA-ARAGON, Sofía. Personality Traits and Depression as Predictors of Trait-State Anxiety in Mothers. Trait Anxiety (T-A) and State Anxiety (S-A) are related to personality traits (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Kindness, Responsibility) and with depression, touching the dynamics of biparental and single-parent families. The present study aimed to analyze whether personality traits and depression predict T-A and S-A in biparental mothers (married and in common-law union) and single parents (single, separated, divorced). 836 mothers from Mexico City participated with an age range of 20-55 years (M = 40.2, SD = 7) who voluntarily completed three instruments. A Pearson correlation and hierarchical regressions were carried out. The results indicate that personality traits and depression predict T-A and S-A. Neuroticism and depression are negative predictors, promoting T-A and S-A in biparental and single-parent mothers. Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Friendliness and Responsibility were predictors that tend to decrease it. A trend of higher predictive values of neuroticism and depression was observed in divorced and separated mothers, which suggests that they are more vulnerable to presenting higher levels of T-A and S-A to the detriment of their mental health.
