GUTIERREZ BARRETO, Samuel Eloy et al. Proposal for Entrustable Professional Activities for the specialty of Geriatrics. Investigación educ. médica [online]. 2021, vol.10, n.40, pp.70-78.  Epub 21-Fev-2022. ISSN 2007-5057.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fm.20075057e.2021.40.21362.

Introduction:

Competency-based education has been considered as a pedagogical proposal in medicine in recent decades. In clinical contexts, Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) have been used for the application of competencies. The development of this strategy has been implemented in various specialties to improve the quality of postgraduate medical training.

Objective:

to describe the construction process of APROC for the specialty of Geriatrics.

Method:

This study used the sequential mixed method with a qualitative phase followed by a quantitative validation phase. In the first phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with geriatric physicians. Subsequently, a triangulation was performed with other sources to build the APROC. In the second phase, by means of the modified Delphi technique, a consensus of experts was made with professors of the specialty of geriatrics.

Results:

The proposal to build an APC was made and ten EPA were built for the training of geriatric doctors divided into four years of training.

Conclusions:

This is the beginning of an educational proposal for teachers and students of the specialty of Geriatrics in Latin America. We believe that an adaptation to the context is necessary once it is used in clinical practice. Further study of its implementation must be continued to demonstrate the effects of this proposal.
